126 Fog Light modification?

I have a 1983 300sd (with 30a strip on # 11 fuse) and would to change the fuse panel conections so the fog lights go on with the parking lights. I did a search but could only come up with 123 modification (Fog light off # 11 to # 3 and add 16a fuse to # 3).

Please advise, seems easy , that means I can screw it up .

I have not done such a mod before, but have messed with the head light switch. If you pull it out, there are a dozen or more wires attached with small screws. Use a volt meter to locate the park light lead wire, and the fog light lead, then move the fog light lead to the pl lead and screw it in there.
Could be another way, but that should work.

I would think that the early W126s require the same modification as the W123s. There are a couple of threads discussing the mod, and from what I've read, it's a PITA because of the limited work space and bundles of wires.

Good luck though, having parking + fogs is really nice. I use them during the day for increased visibility to others. There's nothing quite like 100 watts of yellow light to make you stand out in the crowd.

some of the ways to do this will keep the fogs on with the high beams. this is not a good idea as you will not beable to take full advantage of the high beam distance as you eye will naturally focus where the most amount of light is. With the fogs on this will be 20 feet infront of the bumper which is not a very useful place to look when you are doing 60 mph.

Just a reminder to leave your fogs off when the weather is clear.

Why not just get a used switch out of a later W126? Then you just have to move the knob one click to the right to get the parking lights on, and pull out if you only want the fogs.

New their about $50 but you could probably pull one out of a junk car for close to nothing. If the knob is shot a new one is a couple of bucks.

Did this work?

I have an 83 300 sd and want to do this modification with the foglights. What were the results from doing this? Was it easier to get a newer switch? What year did it come from? Did anyone try to re-work the wires on the old switch? Thanks for any new info!!

Our 1986 300SDL allowed the fog lights to come on with parking lights only. Check the wire diagrams to make sure that it was just the switch.

Mine too, but my '85 does not... I think it was another split year thing.

I found one from a 1987 SDL and it worked. I only use the fog lights to be seen not for seeing. I think that is what orange fog lights where first invented for in England.
