Need help with Hella Euro lights for 300D
Dear Diesel Demons:
I recently purchased a pair of Hella Euro lights for my '83 300D, had them installed and now they don't seem to work properly. When I hit the high beam switch all four lights come on but the larger bulbs dim to what seems to be half power. I also notice the high beam indicator in the instrument cluster stays on all the time, at half power, then lights fully when I engage the high beams. Some questions: Are the larger bulbs supposed to be single beam with the high beam the smaller bulb? Does anything about the wiring/fusing/etc have to be changed to properly use these lights? Can anyone tell me, based on the photos I've attached, if these lights have the vacuum adjustment? And how do I know if my 300D actually has the headlight adjustment? Where is the switch located? Is it part of the headlight switch or located somewhere else? Thanks in advance for any assistance you kind people can provide. All best,

Big lights are high and low (H4?), small lights are fogs (H1?).
I don't see any height/tilt adjustment mechanism. In the W123 I believe the headlight adjustment switch goes in the strip above the AC controls. Where the rear dome light switch is. I suspect you correctly fit the pins from the US connector to the Euro connector. Do a search on the proper pin connections for your car. Sixto ... stay tuned |

Wagon headlights.
Those are headlight assemblies from a wagon. SLS = car stays level all the time = no need for the adjustment mechanism.
The wiring diagrams are in the back of the haynes manual. It'll take a few tries, but you can figure it out. If you get stuck, p.m. and I'll email some pix of the connectors I took when I installed my headlights. Jay.

They're headlights from a lesser 123 (200/D, 220/D, 230, 240D) through 80 or 81. Euro wagons and some sedans and coupes have SLS and adjustable headlights. After 80 or 81 all 123s got the rectangular headlights the 280 got from 76.
