I am in process of acquiring a 240D parts cart. The 240D is a manual. Should I take the manual trans from the 240D and put it in my 1985 300D ?

Of those who voted "Yes" who has a diesel with a manual?

I like my manual turbo but, if I was to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't. 240s and N/A 300's are better suited to the manual tranny than a turbo and it's ungoverned IP.

The part that I think is funny is that last night I was telling my son about this parts car and that it had a manual transmission. Right away he got this grin and said. "what about putting the manual in Margaret?" I am so proud of him (sniff)

I wish I had one. If you have the parts, time, tools, resources, patience, ect. I'd say go for it. I just may hold off on rebuilding the '85 if I can get a manual from a guy I know that has three 240D's, two with manuals that he doesn't use.

Well referencing my post about the parts car....
I bought a parts car....well 1/2 of one

I noticed that the bell housing is rather small on this 200D. Thus the clutch must be very small. I am concerned about using this manual transmission on a turbo 617 engine for fear that the clutch would not last.

Does anyone know if the manual tranmission on a Euro 200D is the same as used on the 300D and/or 240D?

I like the idea of this project, however, if the engine has too much torque for the clutch I don't want to do it. Any thoughts?

Is there a significant MPG increase after switch a auto 300D to a manual?

I've had no issues since I converted nearly a year ago and over 8,000miles.

i would expect to increase one to two mpg hiway.
