Just a little update about the 300CD

Hey folks, I picked up a "new to me" 1983 300CD Friday evening. I only paid $800 for the car and I was expecting something that needs alot of work. Well what a pleasant surprise when I saw what I was buying (bought it sight unseen). It is in exceptional condition for an 83 model. It has 289,000 on the clock and it still works! This car has been maintained by an Indy shop in OK and I have all of the service records for this car. It needs a few things. My antenna does not go down, my tach works intermitanly. When I hit a bump or if the A/C cycles (when I hear the click in the controller) the tach sometimes works, it is missing 2 chrome pieces that surround the handle and lock on the drivers door and that is about it. The A/C does work but it has been converted to R134 :( I came across 4 cases of R-12 recently when an old neighbor passed away and his daughter gave these "cans of something" to me ;) I plan on converting it back to R-12 after I take the proper steps to clean the system and replace parts that need replacing. All in all it is a pretty nice car and the paint is in good condition. There are no cracks in the dash and the interior is pretty nice. The drivers seat could use part of a pool noodle on the left side but it is bearable. I'll post some pics of it as soon as someone tells me how to!

I get the CCU click when I hit bumps too. I believe it has something to do with the ignition switch.

My CCU doesnt click when I hit bumps but rather my tach works when my CCU clicks or if I hit a bump. The CCU seems to work fine. I guess it is just the dash gremlins.

perhaps the tach amp is wishy-washy ie bad solder joints
do the cigarette butt trick and see if it helps
take you 10 seconds

Could you tell me what the cig butt trick is please? Also, I forgot to mention that my cruise does not work. Fortunately, I run a salvage yard and I have a bunch of parts cars;) I got a cruise amp from a 240 which shows to work and I will try it this evening to see if it works.

I did a search on the cig butt trick and found out what to do. Instead of using a cig butt I used an old plyable piece of rubber hose and it did the job. I found a foam peanut under the cap where someone had already fixed it once. Now my tach works! All I really have left is to fix my cruise control and my electric antenna. I am going to try to replace the cruise amp this evening and hopefully that will fix it. Someone had put a JC Whitney cruise control on tis car because the switch is still in the car. All the wires have been cut and all the components removed. I sure hope the cruise amp fixes it. Is there any other obvious things I should look for on fixing the cruise?
