Man, that's a pretty penny. Sixto ... stay tuned |
I'd say its worth what its going for...wow! I want that car!!!
|
Thats pretty cool, my 81 is almost as nice, if not nicer and has less miles, just not all the records. Also mine still has the kilometer odometer/speedo so my miles are closer than theirs, you never know how many were put on before the car was federalized.
MB-Tex in euros is kind of rare, strange wierd this one has it but no other options. Also, is that an EGR valve under the air cleaner? In any case I'd drive it. |
Yum Yum
That one's a sweetie. Gray market euro diesels were pretty rare back in 1984-85. Skinny euro bumpers, no "diesel" script, crank rear windows, and a 300 4 speed makes this one really desirable. Calif/Arizona provenance means no rust either. The blue Calif. plate was issued in 1982.
WVO conversion already done too. Someone's gonna get a good car. I'd be tempted if I was in the market. Prices could spike REALLY high when the auction closes. |
Dang, I ought to get my fender painted so mine would be in equal, if not better condition.
If anyone is interested in this car, well a 4 speed 300d, they are wonderfull cars. Excellent power, economy and the simplicity (and more) over a 240d. Too bad this one isn't a rare euro color, that is the only thing I find wrong with it. Edit: something I just noticed, that front bumper has hit something. It is sitting at an upward angle and if you look at the drivers side cover you can see it is bent up. While euro bumpers are very soft steel and ding easily (and can be banged out as well) but the brackets are pretty solid and take some force to bend. The brackets come off the bumper easily, so if the steel was bent you could easily fit on a different and cleaner bumper. It is still a nice car but something good to know. The dash also has some pretty deep cracks kind of hidden by the armor all. |
I paid $1000 for mine. There isnt supposed to be a Diesel tag on the euros? Mines got one. And about the same mileage. BTW this one has electric windows. My taxi doesnt even have rear seatbelts!

They know what the D means in Europe

The thing I noticed about this car is that it does not have the vinyl trim around the inside of the top of the doors. That trim is all wrinkled up on both my cars and looks like hell. I don't recall if the one I drove in 1978 had the trim or not. I wonder what the option code for that is? Does anyone know? |
Neither of my euros have the vinyl trim on the doors, makes me very happy.
Auction ended and didn't meet reserve. I wonder what the guy is looking to get. It is nice but I mean much more and it is a bit overkill. |
The vinyl around the door frames on our cars was an exclusively american feature...all the US spec car's had it, but not the european ones. I peeled it off my drivers door. :D
