Aux Veg Tank Heater Hose Question
 

Howdy Folks,
I installed a aux. tank in the trunk of my 83' 300d with 3/8 coolant hose attached to a heat exchanger in the tank. I also have the Frybrid heated filter that uses 5/8 coolant hose. I have both the 3/8 and the 5/8 lines in one sequence with an adaptor near the filter for the differing hose sizes. I have the lines hooked at the heater core inlet and at the water pump.

However, I cant get the coolat to flow through the system properly. I tried burping it with the lower radiator hose. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Please state exactly where your coolant lines come from and return to. Or if you can upload some pics.

Flow is only as good as the most restrictive part...3/8....then if you have a barb that fits into the 3/8...you have even less.

The flow goes from the heater core hose by the oil filter, to the heated fuel filter, then to the heat exchanger in the tank, then back to the hose by the water pump.

I was afraid that the 3/8 line is not doing the trick. My logic was that if I could get the filter very hot, that the left over collant flow to the fuel tank would be enough to loosen the oil up so it could flow through the system without problems. However, after looking at other posts I am afraid that the MB pump doesnt produce all that much pressure and that a larger hose to the tank may be required. Bummer Thats what I get for being cheap! :rolleyes:

Some flow should still go through the system, even with the small diameter hose. I bet you still have some air in there. The best way I found to get all of the air out was to drive for a few minuets at a high RPM. Be sure to check the coolant level often.

Where did you hook the aux coolant line in relation to the mono valve?

Hello,
The line is spliced between the water pump and the aux water pump. However, I solved the problem by driving on the highway for a bit per the directions. I guess that it just needed more pressure and heat to get the air out of the system. I think that the 3/8 line will actually work out ok now because I am getting great heat to the tank and to the heated filter. Thanks for the help!
