Why not R22?
This is just a hypothetical stupid question (so don't flame me), can an auto a/c system that was running R12 and mineral oil use R22? as a top off or complete fill? Both refrigerants use the same oil, same manifold gauges right? pressure are similar? my R12 30lb is almost gone but I have a full R22 30lb.
I know shops use R22 and nitrogen to pressure test. why would it not work, what problems could one expect? |
The answer you are probably looking for is the pressure of R-22 is to high for a belt driven (r-12)compressor. The other answer is it's illegal.

R-22 was desigend for single speed (electrically operated) compressors. R-12 is for multi speed (automotive type) compressors. Now the fun part. R-12 was also used in refridgerators.
