Oil leak healed??

When I rebuilt an "80" 616 for my wifes 240D (30+K ago), I screwed up and did'nt quite get the crank seal to seat perfect and it leaked, maybe a qt in 800-1000 mls, enough so that there was always a "spot" under the car. I had noticed the leak had slowed down some in the past year or so. My wife just returned from a 1700+ mile trip and the car did'nt burn ANY oil (maybe down a fraction of an inch on the dip stick). I'm not a dealer any more (I bailed after purchasing a drum of oil) so I'm not trying to sell oil here but I'm wondering if the synthetic oil (Amsoil) wasn't responsible for my major decrease in oil leaking like they claim. As a side note she drove down eye 5 at speeds of 65-75 averaging 37.2 mpg :D I Dono, Do seal leaks heal themselves??

37+ mpg. are you sure?

Most of the good synthetics (Amsoil included) contain additives that will soften seals and make them swell slightly. This certainly could explain the decreased oil consumption.

I am positive certain cars can heal themselves.
My late (RIP:D ) 71 vw bus healed several oil leaks by herself.

I 've been tracking this leak since the rebuild and was pretty sure it was decreasing but was really surprised when she reported "no oil used on the way down". Then "no oil used on the way home either" Anyway I thought it worthy of comment at the risk of OH god, another "oil thread"

"janko 37+ mpg. are you sure? "

Oh yah, that was on the highway in 5th gear.
