A nice car for sale 82 300SD

I know a guy who has this car for sale. It is a 1982 300SD. I know very little about this car. I will tell you what I do know. In 03 it had a heater motor replaced, all belts replaced, all tie rods replaced, water pump replaced, brake pads and rotors replaced. It has 2 brand new tires on it and a new back seat. The paint is a little thin on the hood, top and lid but the body is straight and the car is extremely tight and in very good mechanical condition. Everything in the car works just as new. A/C blows cold and the cruise works. The leather is cracked in the front seats some and there is one or 2 small cracks in the dash. The Odometer shows 200k (approximately). Like the car sits, he wants $3500 for it. I am making no money off of this deal and you will be dealing directly with the owner of the car if interested. He is a good customer of mine and runs an extremely reputable Indy Benz/Bmw/Hummer repair shop in NW OK. He said once he has the hood, roof and trunk lid painted, he is going to ask $5000 for it. I think this would be a heck of a buy for someone. If you are interested please PM me for more info or email me at jeremy@rjautosalvageinc.com. I will get you in touch with the shop/owner.

If it's accident and rust free, it could be a decent driver for someone not too far away. I don't care for the chromed wheel arches, but from the pictures the car looks pretty solid.

Jim B...i agree. When i first saw those chrome wheel well inserts I thought they would be great on my wagon, we live on a gravel road. Then I actually saw some on a MB and to my eye they detract from the car's classic good looks. Really tacky with the chromed door edge strips. Now, that's just my opinion....if some of y'all have and like 'em, Great!

when i see those i always think that they are covering rust. if they arent they are a good place to trap junk and cause rust.

Chromed wheel arches? Nein Danke!!!

I've seen those chrome wheel arches in GOLD (shudder) on red Mercedes, with the full boat (Gold trim, hood star, script) and THAT is really awful

That's right, they can not only cover up rust, but the drilled holes for them can promote it too. I installed a set of them on a '91 Volvo after a wheel opening got scraped, and it covered the damage perfectly; THEN a few years later, the car was hit and run when parked and the wheel opening and chromed wheel arch was damaged, so I had to replace all four, and replacements were almost impossible to find anywhere, and of course they only sold them in sets of four.

Plus, when we removed them to put on another set, you could really tell it did nothing good for the paint underneath them!

I wouldnt EVER do it again. Likewise, aftermarket chrome doo protection strips, car "bra", not a good idea

He is in Oklahoma, not Ohio. I'm hesitant to post his info on the main board.

No doubt this is a great forum with tons of excellent information. I just didn't want a bunch of trolls calling him and bothering him all day. The guy has 10 or more bays and they are all full, usually two or three cars deep. If someone was really interested, I'd be more than happy to give them the info. This way a a sicko has to work to be a PITA and most won't.

82 300 Sd

I'm somewhat familiar with that car since I examined it and drove it couple
of months ago. It has been mistreated and has the loosest body of any
Mercedes I ever drove. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone and
don't feel it is worth the asking price.

I am actually considering trading my 300cd in on this car. Could you elaborate a little on how it was mistreated? Thanks!

Jeremy---I only gave my impression of the car. If you haven't already
driven it or otherwise evaluated it, I would prefer that you form your own
opinion. My experience with MB's was a 76 300D that I purchased new
and drove 15 years. I have been looking for an 81 thru 85 for some time
and have driven a few, but the car in question didn't feel right to me, I was
afraid of the transmission among other things---it had numerous rattles
and had other indications of bad treatment. Half the lower valence under
the front bumper was missing and I can't recall what else troubled me.
Chances are you know more about the car than I do, your evaluation would
be in order. I found a good solid 84 300TD that has had no problems so
far, I passed up many along the way.
