Stiff brakes, late shifts and the car wont turn off!!

It seems to happen when the car warms up, it just started yesterday. I'm sure its a vacuum leak, anyone had this problem? It's a 83 240D. Thanks!

Josh

Could be the vacuum pump or a leak in the main vacuum line with that many things being effected by it.

Maybe diaphram for brake booster

It could be the diaphram for the brake booster. There has to be lack of vacuum or a fairly large vacuum leak for the brakes to be hard to pump.

I would say it is one of two things. The pump isn't working right (rebuild) or there is a large leak in the main line. All three of your symptoms are on different vac circuits, so I would be willing to bet your pump just took a poop.

Vacuum Pump????

Disconect the vaccuum line that goes to brake booster, start engine, and put your finger over the line, does it suck it in? If not it's the vacuum pump. Also Auto Zone in my area will loan out Mighty Vac, vacuum testers.

Hope this helps.

mighty vac

O'reilly has the might vac for 39.00. I've found it to be a good investment for troubleshooting problems with my 190D.

Yellowbenz hit the nail on the head. I use my mit e vac for everything from climate control to door locks to bleeding my brakes. If you don't have one yet, get one. You will be glad you did. I didn't have one until I bought the diesel Benz last year, but it is one of those tools that you wonder how you ever got along without it once you have it.

Sorry, I figured he already had a vac pump. A vac pump to a w123 is like a hammer to a carpenter. You just need one...
