My 87 300tdt has sprung an exhaust leak at the pipe between the two sections of the exhaust manifold. The leak appears to be a one inch crack along the circumferance of the pipe referred to as "pipe(173)" on the CD repair manual section 14-3900. Short of taking off the turbo, then removing the exhaust manifold as the instructions indicate, is there a fix for this tiny crack. I'm thinking along the lines of some space-age stainless tape. Any suggestions?
JB weld?

Weld?

My '91 190E delevoped a similar crack and after considering all options, had it welded. The guy had a mobile setup and came to my mechanics garage. Had to be welded from underneath the car. It work great and it was reasonable!
