excessive smoke no power

I have a 300sd that will not accelerate with lots of smoke. this problem came on suddenly. fue.l filters have been changed.this seemed to happen after I changed the air filter and took the housing off to clean it any ideas as to what got screwed up?

have you got throttle linkage rods under that air cleaner? Any vac lines in the vacinity, EGR valve, turbo mechanism etc?

excessive smoke and no power could be lack of air. you lose a rag down the air inlet?

Could clogged banjo bolts be the culprit? Just a thought. I don't know how that would happen all of a sudden though. Maybe one of the hard plastic lines going to the banjo bolts got broken in the filter changing process.
It's worth cleaning them even if they aren't the problem.
