I just bought a gray market 240D.
Now a question, are their any parts that are different when buying online? Like glow plugs etc? BTW, I bought it for $500 and it only has 123000 miles on it. It started right up with 2 bad glow plugs, NO SMOKE!

Here are some pics I took when I got it home, it's sitting next to my dark green 300D. It's a 4 speed BTW.

The IP will be differant which means the vacuum shut off is differant, shouldnt be a problem too get tho. I think the blower motor is differant, have'nt faced that one yet.
Nice score at a good price

What year is it? If it is 1981 or later and has a/c then it has a better compressor than the r4 unit.

Not even me believes you bought that Euro 240D w/123k for $500, thats probly why you were challenged to present 5-spd pics. It'll share glow plugs with your 300D. My guess is the 240D will soon become your favorite daily driver.

The more I look at it the more I think you need to get rid of it (obviously selling it to one of us) and get out from under that $$ pit as soon as you can.

Everyone hopefully gets an overall good deal like this occasionaly. They are few and far between though in my experience. If the 123 k is original especially. It was not sold it was stold. What did you offer to do for the little old lady?

You get MAJOR points for even finding one, not to mention at that price.
Since the EPA/DOT conversion process back in the day cost over $10,000 usually, not very many 240 Diesels made it over to this side of the pond. Usually it made more sense to bring over the top of the line SL and S class cars in the gray market. The W123 240D in its time was more often than not used as a Taxicab in Germany. From the looks of it, you have a really neat new car there. Assuming it's not rust from the door handles down, you have a real keeper there. Good luck with it.

Yep, confirmed mileage, bought from the second owner. He had it since 1986 when he bought it from the original owner for $9500 with 13000 miles on it. I got the original service book, the first services were done in Germany and the stamps are there to prove it. There is no A/C, no vacuum door locks, no power anything, no cruise. There is some rust but nothing major and nowhere NEAR as much as I have on my 300D. The story is, 3 years ago I was looking for a MB diesel. I saw this car every day just sitting in a guys driveway, never moved. So I stopped, asked if it was for sale and test drove it. We couldn't agree on a price, I said $900, he said $1500. I left it. It wasn't driven again until I stopped and offered $500 for it.

I wonder how my "85" Euro "slipped through the cracks" It came with adjustable lights & bumpers, I had no idea at the time it was so unusual.
