There is no time left to eat.
In Europe on the other hand they enjoy their

Everyone is in a good mood and there is no reason
to rush since they have time enough to get to where
they are going.
Less stress, happier people and no one is tired.

I don't drink coffee so it doesn't bother me.
I drink bottled products and just lay them in
the middle console or pass. seat.

Louis.
You make Europe sound so cherry, I wonder why we left there in the first place? Just givin ya crap but it sounds like an unattainable utopia

Sounds like some people may have been happier living in Europe.

Here they do because most people here are in a rush.
If you aren't fast enough off the line they're on your a$$,
just waiting for a chance to pass you.

Nobody in America enjoys their meals, or has quality family time??? Really.....

Yes, because again everyone is in a rush or they are all working
different times.
I remember when living in Belguim the people always
had breakfast and dinner together.
Ecceptions do exist but in general they do have their
meals together.

Everyone in Europe is in a good mood? Really......

In 8 years of driving in Belguim I was yelled a hand full
of times. Here it is almost on a daily basis and not
just because I drive a diesel MB.
Here they just cut you off and not even look back to
give you a hand motion that they are sorry.
In Europe the breakdown lane is for breakdowns only.
They aren't use as a passing lane when the traffic is
backed up.
Also they are more patient.
And they try to follow the rules of the road.
Ex: in order to make mergin easier they have what
is called the zipper effect.
One car lets an merging car in and the next does
the same.
Here they would rather hit your car then to let you in.
They also leave space inbetween the car infront on
of them when they are stuck in traffic so that the
traffic keeps moving, slowly yes but it's moving.
Here they cut infont of you if you leave space.
Then they race to the car infront of then having
to slam on their brakes in order not to hit the car
they are following. Bringing traffic to a screeching halt.

Hey, I could go on and on but I have to go to work now.

Hey chief, maybe some of us just like coffee......

Nothing wrong with that, but have it before or after
your trip.
Or stop at a rest stop and have it.
OOOOh, thats right not to many of them around.
Unlike in Europe, every highway as a few of them.

Louis

Marine "Captain's" type of mug......

I use one of those wide based Marine, Boating, or Captain's style of mug with a no-spill lid...of course....sit it on top of a coupla rags on the passengers side floor......works fer me.....

As to the Euro Utopia.....I agree, driving is way more civilized over there....

As to the zipper effect....only when arriving at NASCAR races here in USA.....

I was re-educated in my driving style while living in 'Nawlins.....use of turn signals is a sign of weakness, and alerts the other drivers to speed up and block your move.....I have noted this in Houston as well.....

Cool

I bought a little two cup holder that is supposed to sit on a pick-up's bench seat. It has adjusters for various sized cups and some additional compartments. Got it at Wally World for a few bucks. Worked good in my VW T3 I had,... must be the German car thing.

Anyway, it sits on the passenger's floorboard, close to the front of the seat. Most people can still sit there even if I have my coffee there without it bothering them. I'll post a pict if ya want.

As for the no cupholder question, here's your answer: As I have been told, it is illegal to drive without both hands on the wheel at all times over there. And there aren't any drive-throughs there either. Not allowed. :shame So why install tons of cupholders? That sensible German engineering again.

As for me (a professional truck driver by trade), I can't function as well without a cup on the way to work in the morning. Actually I'm waiting for the on-board GPS navigation systems in the new cars to be replaced with a voice activated, on-board espresso machine.

Women drivers

Im going in the deep end of the pool here and that is women generally give the driving public a scare in their driving habits, not all have adopted these strange and unusual behavoirs but its growing city to city and will soon envelope the whole country .Averaging about half of them have this syndrome, its critical to change this behavior when their young and moldable, after their 20 its usless, they have harden their skills and have honed their craft to perfection.Hair ,nails and makeup will rule the lanes and we as guys will all be content to drive in the slow lane.

Idioten Amerikaners

SAFE German automobiles never come with "cupholders";What sane German
would endanger herself/himself by attempting to drive and be distracted by
a cupholder's contents?

The German Cousins have a very good point of safety evident here!

You younger folks, I feel deeply for ya.......cell phones, multitasking, Bluetooth, WyFi, all of this modern communication......you are never very far from your jobs......I liked it when you went to work, gave them your 8 hours, and then came home.....and didn't have to consider "the Job" until the next morning.....

One of the reasons that I retired was, company got upset because I put in a 2 hour Overtime "Call Out"....every time my boss phoned to ask a question.....we were sitting in port at the time......it wasn't my boss' problem for not knowing his job, he was a good a$$ kisser.....it was my problem for wanting to be paid for my time, and knowledge!!!!
