This is a weird one. for sure.
I tried searching it out this time, and couldn't find anything on it.
Here's my latest adventure with Ol' Betsy, my '82 300TD. This problem has occurred twice. Out of nowhere the a/c starts blowing hot. Hmmm... okay, so I turned the air off, and opened the windows. After running the car for another 15 or so minutes, I pull into the driveway, and turn her off. So when then I go to restart her, and the battery is WEAK.... barely turns over. Sounds like the alternator, right?? I read something recently about some component on the alternator that frequently goes out, and can be swapped without removing the alternator. Might this be it? Help!? Thanks guys.

OK, I'm not a 300 owner, and I don't have ACC, but is this not a classic monovalve/ACC problem?
Someone else chime in here!

The part you are refering to is the voltage regulator.
Does the compressor run when the air is blowing hot?

When my alternator went out it caused all kinds of strange electrical issues from ACC to radio and starting issues. You might be able to change the voltage regulator without removing the alternator, but you'd have to be pretty dextrous in my opinion. Removing it is not so bad. Good luck.
