VW will still have diesels, they will just skip one model year. They will be selling 2006 TDI's into 2007 as long as they have them available, then they will have a 2008 model. There won't be any MY 2007 diesels. Also there will be a 6 cylinder Toureg TDI coming.

Honda should keep doing what it does well, wedgefront riceburners and just keep away from pickups and suvs, anything that might make it off the asphalt.

But, I have ridden in a '94 Toyota pickup 5spd 4X4 with a 2.2 liter TD. The owner got a front cut of a 4Runner and put it in. I would love to have one of these, especially if I didn't have to do an engine swap. But definately something to think about if you ever need to replace your gas engine. I too have wished for a smaller diesel, my Dad has a '97 Ford PSD, 5spd, 4X4, Crewcab longbed. Its turning radius is measured in zip codes. We would love a nice little pickup, for now I'm planning on a light but stout trailer with a weight distribution hitch on the benz for vegi road trips.
