smokey running

84 300D turbo

So the car starts with a little puff of black smoke. no surprise there.

after 5 minutes of warming there is that blueish/whitish smoke- how much should there be- do I need to see if it is still there at running temp-

I know it needs a valve adjustment but what else can I do to decrease the exhaust smoke?

Will a dp help or will adjusting the ALDA do the trick?

Do the valves before you even begin to troubleshoot this smoke. Blue is oil burning. Do the valves and report back. I bet it fixes your issue. How many miles on the engine?

engine supposedly has less than 100k- ODO broke at 58K! (prev. owner said 1-2 years ago) who really knows?
Only the car itself and I dont think it cares.

I will do a valve adj. (DIY style) I only hope i do it correctly.

Get the haynes book or use the online FSM but dont guess! Valve job is critical to your engine and some mistakes are costly to learn the hard way. There are a lot of sites that have pictorial writeups too. I think Dieselgiant has one thats pretty good. Reasearch before wrench!
