81 240D door panel removal

Help, please.
My drivers side window just fell off it tracks; the manual window crank spins ineffectively. I am stumped on how to remove the door panel to have a look inside.

I have removed the armrest.
The frame around the door latch is off
The lock plunger is screwed off.

I can't figure out what I need to do about the inside door release handle, more particularly, the frame.

There are no screws holding this frame, which is metal, to the door. It appears to have been snap fit onto some spring steel type sub-frame.

Anyone have any know-how on what I need to do? Pry it off with extreme prejudice? I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks to all,
Mike

Is there a black plastic piece in the frame, behind the handle? You need to carefully remove the plastic piece to expose the screw that holds it in place.

Pry around the edges with a very small screwdriver and you can pop it out. As I recall, there are little tabs at the front and back ends.

Mike,

After U get all the parts removed, lift up on the panel and it will come out.

Don't pry out on the panel or U will break off the plastic clips that hold the panel onto the door frame.

Removing a W123 door.

--Remove the 2 large scews in the armrest. Look from below.
--Remove the 2 small screws on the lock, latch chrome on the rear of the door.
--Pry out the black plastic piece behind the door opening lever.
--Remove the small screw behind the black plastic piece above.
--Remove the push down lock at the top of the rear of the door, it unscrews.
With a large flat plastic door tool or flat metal putty knife. Go around the bottom and rear of the door and pop loose the plastic push pin units. Place the tool between the doors metal and the MB tex panel and pry towards the center of the car. Each unit will POP when released.
--At the front of the panel where the map box is located is a 90 degree plastic support piece that you should be careful removing when removing the MB tex panel.
--To access the interior of the door, remove the plastic water shield sheet. reinstall with spray adhesive or rubber cement.
-- To reinstall the panel I place a slim rubber tube on the door lock shaft and feed it through the opening in the panel. Make sure you catch the upper metal edge of the panel on the window trim. Look at it carefully and you will see what I'm talking about. Pop in the plastic inserts and attach all screws and your done.

Dave
