I have the Mercedes CD and have not had any problems since I did the following. It also works faster this way.

Make a file on your hard drive called W123.
Then copy the disk to it.
I only copied disk 2 since that is the one with the diesel engines.
Now find the file called "matrix6.htm and create a shortcut to it on your desktop.
To use the Service Manual I click on the W123 icon on my desk top, that is the shortcut to Matri6.htm. The program will load and operate normally. Make sure you have the current Adobe Reader 7.0
You will go thru the normal menus and it will work normally.
A while ago I did have times where the PDF file would not open. I would just go to the folder in the W123 file and click on the PDF file number that corresponds to the job work order number.

Wink cdplayer

I bought a new Dell XPS Dimmentions expecting it to do it all. Guess not. I too got a shop manual on Cd from Ebay. The instructions included indicated I needed Acrobat Reader 7. www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Then there are two different instructions to follow depending on your system. For XP and Netscape 7.1 or Higher (I downloaded the Netscape broswer 8.0 free) :
1. With computor running put disc into CD drive
2. Start Netsape (click on the Netscape icon on your desk top screen)
Note:At the top of the Netscape page click on File. A window drops. Click on "open file".
Note: If the next screen lists several files to chose from as mine did,you will need to click on the "index.html file to open the Mercedes Cd.
3. Mercedes intro will come on.
4. Click on skip intro in the upper corner (left or right)
5. Click on accept
On my computor the next screen looks like bits of a puzzle are missing.
But who cares??? Hahaha. Just arrow down to continue.
6. Click on continue
7. Click on your model and year
8. Select what you want to look at
9. To exit just click out of Netscape at the upper right hand corner.
Good luck.

But now you have 2 problems.

1. You actually have to start working on the car and get things done, now that you have the Service Manual.

2. You will notice that some of the pictures in the PDF files are crappy and hard to read. Try printing them out, that temds to make them a little better. Not 100% better, like the paper manual, but a little better.

I guess since you can open them when they are on the HD, then you have the browser set to launch Adobe, so that's not the problem. Strange.

And I bet it wasn't the camera, but the compression to PDF that blahed the pics.
