16x9's on my 126?

Duplicate posted in Wheels and Tires...

Found a deal on a wheelset and would like opinions on fitment on my '84 300sd.

16x9 wheels (15 offset)
225/50 tires

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Brian

I use 205/60R15 tires on my W123. 225/50R16's are just a hair wider and 0.7% taller.

what size is recomended for the 15x7 ronals

I'd be willing to bet that you're not getting a 9" wheel with a 15mm offset on a W126. It will almost certainly hit the tie rod. The stock 7" wheels have about 3/4" clearance.

16x8s off an R129 won't clear the rear frame rails of a W126 sedan.

With an offset of only 15 they'll probably stick out of the fenders.

Well I did it, and am very pleased. Zero fitment issues.

There is about 1/4" clearance from the tie rod. They really fill the fenderwells nicely...I think.

Nigel at cheapwheels.com really did me right. The whole shebang, shipped to my door for less than $750....TSW wheels w/ Kumho Ecsta ASX's (225/50-16's).

PS: The center caps are not installed yet...arriving in another box, but I couldn't wait.

Almost forgot...I will be dropping the car by about 3/4" for an approximation of Euro ride height.

How will you accomplish this?

*FLAME SUIT ON*

I know I will get "poo-poo'd" for this, but I am going to cut appx 1/2 a coil.

I cannot find any performance springs for the diesel application....H&R's only applicaton is for the gassers and Eibach have discontinued.

Nah, I agree with your approach.

Please do me a favor:

Measure the height of the fenderwell from the pavement prior to your modification. Then, determine exactly how much you're going to cut. After you reinstall the spring, please measure the height from the pavement to the fenderwell again.

I need to do the same thing on three of these and would really prefer some data before I make the cut.
