this all stems from the cars PO being to lazy to do a repair the right way.

what you are looking at is the inside of the drivers side footwell by the parking brake and hood release handle. i guess he was trying to fiz the power seat switch which thanks to him is inoperable. i was just chasing the wires to see where they went and came across his handy work. there are a few other areas of his handywork in the car too but this is the worst.

im trying to figure out what to do with the car right now. mabye its just cause im mad but im thinking of getting rid of it and getting another one. what do you guys think?

I'd be more worried about those welded holes...

I wonder if the door strap mount broke loose off the body in the cavity and they cut it open to weld it back on- my 380's drivers door strap is the same way and I hadn't come across a good way to fix it yet.

the hole is actually under the strap, i thought this too but it looks like he was trying to get at the power seat wires.
it doesnt seem right using hole and car in the same sentence:(

If this is common throughout, I'd think about another and use this one for parts.

I'm not sure what all of that is, but I would suspect it would be easy to fix. I deal with this on a daily basis. First, unrap all the tape, disconnect any wires that are not factory (it's usually easy to tell which wires are not factory), reconnect any wires that were cut (also usually easy as the wires are color codded. When everything looks like it is back to factory spec, then trouble shoot the problem and fix it. Problem solved. Car fixed. Another possibility is that the wires broke in the door hinge area and someone cut the harness on each side of the henge area and made a new harness for that area. If this is the case, it could be spliced on the inside of the car (as per the pictures) and the other end inside the door. Could also be that the door was replaced at some point and the wires just spliced inside the car. In any case, unrap the tape and have a look. It is fixable.

If it was a 240D manual I'd say get rid of it, but since it isn't you might as well keep it......:D

If thats all thats wrong,just replace the wiring .Make sure you use the same gauge wires,solder and heat shrink each connection,wrap it with plastic conduit and it will be golden.Ive seen a lot worse.Good Luck:) I may have the harness you need,at least the correct wiring,pm me and I will send it to you.

Let us hope that he did not do too much electrical work on the car. Or any other work for that matter.

Something I look for when purchasing one of these cars is to find one that hasn't had some ham fisted moron trying to fix the car and doing work like this. I don't think I ever saw anyone start cutting on the car to get to wiring. If they wired it from the factory, it has to be accesable without cutting.

ive found his handywork in other parts of the car but nothing bad, just like the wrong bolt in a place as if he lost it and put a different one in its place. also it turns out the story he gave us about the cars history was complete BS. carfax checked it out. they say hindsight is 20/20 and if i would have thougt of car fax and asked for more service records for the car and found this stuff out i deffinately would not have gotten it. but since i have it im going to make do as best i can. eventually hoping to get it restored to as close to original condition as possible.
