my exhaust is more patches than pipe
I'm def going to build something myself, I'm considering using this muffler...
http://www.aeroexhaust.com/ It is packless, so theres no rockwool/fiberglass/packing to get loated w/ soot. I would definately junk your resonator either way. its pretty expensive, but looks and sounds good.

If you don't want a loud car I suggest you keep the resonator. The resonator imposes very little back pressure to the system but reduces the noise a lot. I cut the stock muffler off my 85 300SD and put a cherry bomb on it. Eventually it will pack with soot and become essentially a straight pipe (which is what I wanted, but this way it is legal). Before we put the cherry bomb on after removing the muffler we fired it up and it was still pretty quiet.

You won't notice much beyond a louder tone and slightly lower turbo lag. I went with a 3" system to minimize exhaust gas temperatures (EGT's).
There won't be any power gain, just what you have a little sooner. |
