1980 300SD Tranny Shifting Problems
I posted this same question a few months ago. and i am now just getting around to possibly working on my car. The problem is that the tranny will not shift out of first, if it does it goes to a neutral type postition and the engine just revvs. also the spedometer stopped working the same time the tranny started what it has started.
I did a search on the governor because that is what some people said might be wrong. this was the only related link i could find... Transmission 722.418 Governor Test Question ... I was wondering if the W116 trannies and the W124 (i think is the thread's vehicle) are the same procedure and if anyone knew the PN that i had to find for my car. it is a 80' 300SD. the part number for the gear and the selinoid (i think) that is on the opposite side of the governor. If i even have the selenoid. Thanks in advance Last edited by 79300sdtd; 08-25-2006 at 10:26 AM. |

If you haven't serviced your trans in a while or never, I would do that first including changing the filter and positioning the torque convertor so you can drain it also. If that doesn't work, try a quart of TRANS-X. Be sure to lower your trans oil level FIRST a quart so you don't overfill. The stuff works.
