I visited both my local Pep Boys in North Austin. The shelves are full of Made in Turkey CH2930 filters.

If I didn't already have a full inventory, I would buy some.

Now if I could only find the new Mobil1 "Turbodiesel Truck" oil, I'd be set.....

The Fram 2930 (for the 617 engine) made in Turkey has a bypass section that is packed full of cotton string rather than the cotton waste (looks like dirty first aid cotton) featured in many other filters, including some German ones. Whether the floor sweepings will really do harm I do not know but I'd rather avoid that kind. There are threads in this forum in which people have cut filters open to show the junk inside. The 2930 has also been seen with a "made in Mexico" ID. With apologies to my Mexican friends, they are said to be no good, although I have not seen them personally.

The Fram 2930 comes with the big o-ring for the filter cannister's lid but does not come with the copper crush ring for the oil pan drain plug. However, for what I save on the filters, I can afford to buy dozens of crush rings.

From the local Pep Boys, I just picked up two filters for my Benz and two for my wife's Oldsmobubble. Out the door for $14.01 including tax!

Do they need the original coupon, or just a print out? This is a way better deal than I paid for a STP oil filter at AutoZone for $10! (Which included 3 sets of copper rings, so I'll keep it...)

I printed the coupon from the web site ad and it was accepted. Have also done this in the past (May and July, 2006) with no problems.
