Injector Line Heaters

I recently read that FattyWagon is no longer selling the injection line heater kits. I have looked around and can't find the formula for what was used to make the right ammount of heat and whatever. I think it is nichrome wire but I don't know for sure. I saw nichrome wire on McMaster.com but it was not insulated. The stuff Fattywagon had did appear to be insulated. Anyone know either way? It has to be insulated or else it will short out on itsself or the injector line. I am also wondering how many turns of wire per inch and all that too. I can't buy the kit anymore but I do want to make something as close as I can to it, it did look like a clean installation. Thanks, Eric.

I have read that you have to be careful and it is very experimental. Check out www.vegoilconversions.netfirms.com. He sells injector line heaters there. Same concept, higher price, and I can assure higher quality. I'm sure it would be cheaper than trying to make your own.

I have the said kit, uninstalled, in my back seat. If you can wait a few hours, I can give you an exact breakdown of what is in the kit, including measurements and stuff. I can get you pics, too if you need it. Check back in a bit. And be careful about ordering from fattywagons (flame suit getting zipped up as we speak). Call them before placing an online order, just to make sure they are actually shipping.

The kit includes (drum roll)

One Wire : 1' 12g wire into 3' cloth insulated wire (not sure of the guage, but i'd imagine it's 12 as well) into 3' 14g. Basically three different lines, crimed together and silicon taped into one large wire.

5 strips of silicon tape, app 1' each

I'd imagin that one could make one for under $10, even less if a house is getting demo'd around you.

Hope this helps.

The middle wire is not copper house wire and the insulation is not just cloth. The middle wire is nichrome and the insulation is fiberglass.

Is that the "Little Devil 12v DC Electric Fuel Heater"?
not much of a description on how it works.

I just went to FattyWagon's site. What makes you think they aren't making them anymore?

Also, if you go to their "Installation Instructions" section they pretty much tell you what they are made of.

Thanks everyone for the info so far. I read on the SVO forum on biodiesel.infopop.cc that someone was complaining that their heater kit was not there after 2 months from Fattywagons. Fatty actually posted like 5 posts down and apologized and said he and his person who was running their site both were very busy and were not going to do it anymore. That's it in a nutshell. I am not trying to get in the middle of anything nor flame Fatty or anyone else. I just am starting to piece together my next system for the SD and I want to utilize that heater setup. I think the fiberglass insulation is separate from the wire. I found some similar wire on McMaster but no insulation yet. I think I can piece it together no problem, though. Hilliard, by the way, is a suburb on thw west side of Columbus. Canton is north east, right?

.030 stainless

I was under the impression that fattywagons used a ceramic insulation (not fiberglass) and .030 stainless MIG wire for an element. On top of that you need a tube of orange RTV, some heavy duty crimps and crimping pliers, some high heat tolerance wire (for power and ground wires), and a bunch of silicone tape. All of these components are available at either an auto parts store or Home Depot or both I think, but for $30, those fattywagons work really nice.

Hello,
I thought I'd give an update on what;s going on. I know several folks have been waiting way too long for their orders. My long time friend William has agreed to keep fattywagons alive. He will be managing the web site, filling the orders and will keep making and shipping injector heaters, HIH, filter heaters and single tank benz kits. He has two Benz cars (a wagon and a CD) using the fattywagons conversion and even runs his Cat powered Bucket tuck on 50% WVO.
Take care,
John

Like I posted yesterday. If you go to the "Installation Instructions" section on FattyWagon's website they pretty much list all the parts.

What will the inside of your fuel lines look like after you run these heaters for a while?

Take a look at pelican wire. http://www.pelicanwire.com/

The website assume you know what you are looking at, so take your time and figure it out.
