No radiator expansion tank
My car does not have one....
I've seen a few at the junkyard that do. should I bother to get one and put it in??? I've noticed that when she gets really hot a bit of coolant will escape. opinions? thanks, b. 1981 300D

I added one to my 240D, saved me the drips in my garage.

I might be wrong but I think that the expansion tank went with a thicker radiator on the turbo cars. It is a more effective radiator, and if you have a problem with your car running a bit hot it would not hurt to change it out. It might be less work to clean your original radiator out with a hose and a wire brush. Also replace the radiator cap. They are pressure rated and when they get old sometimes they leak some coolant.

You realize you need a different radiator to work with the tank, don't you? It's not an overflow tank, it's pressurized and the cap is on the tank, not on the radiator. I have a tank on my 300D and no tank on my 240D, both systems work well.

Yes, I noticed the differnet rads with the tanks.
I also saw one with a rad like mine, but with an aftermarket overflow tank. just wondering, mine doesn't really get over 100 on the temp guage, and thats only when going uphill in the heat.

Sure, you can add a overflow tank. It will just collect anything that gets by the cap. If you don't get over 100, you shouldn't be losing coolant unless you have a bad cap or you are overfilling the radiator.
