Question 1976 240D a/c problems

I have had this car for about a year and a half, without a/c. Im tired of not having it, especially since I live in Houston, TX. I dont know too much about why it doesnt work, but my dad says that there is somthing wrong with the compressor or something. Ill try to get some more information soon, but if anyone has a simple answer that would be great. Thanks.

The AC system on these cars seems to be fairly troublesome, probably due to the age of all of the parts of the system. I choose to just remove mine while swapping the engine and not worry about it anymore. Of course now it looks like I may get a job in your neck of the woods.

Try this for starters: http://www.dieselgiant.com/repairyourac.htm

I have a compressor from the 1980 300SD engine I am swapping into my 240D available if you are interested.

Your car uses the York compressor which are pretty stout units but they can be a pain. Use the pictorial to do some test on it. Ask if you have more questions.

Cool, thanks. I hope that I can fix it, because I really dont want to give up my car for a new one just because of no a/c.

i have a 76 300d, also with no a/c, belt wasent on it when i got it, so i assumed it was off because it didnt work (did the serizure test, compressor does not seem to be seized) it doesnt get too hot here in lex, ky, and the heat works (somewhat) so its all good
