Will this style spring compressor work on MB 123
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone knows if a hook and bolt style coil spring compressor will work on 123s. I am considering purchasing one from Snap-On Tools - it has a double hook on the top and a single on the lower part. The catalog says it works on Macpherson and coil springs up to 6" diameter. Thanks in advance. |
It should work fine.....:)

No. The bolt will not clear to remove the spring.
That type is very dangerous. They barely work for changing struts. |
Same question, a billion times. Oye!
Please search for "spring compressor" "123" or "126" or "klann" Don't be a tool by using the wrong "tool":D |

I "borrowed" these pictures from someone else on this forum, but I'm sorry I do not recall who. To this unrecalled person I give you credit. Note the bending bolts!

The proper spring compressor is available in the tool rental program.
Other styles of spring compressors either don't work properly and/or are very dangerous. As mentioned in a search, this is a case where using the wrong tool just is not worth it. |

When My father and I lowered my w123 back in 1999/2000 there were no rental programs that I could find (online, catalog, etc.) and there were only Ventra springs that I could find for the W123 - in England. I bought the springs, paid almost as much to ship them as I did to own them (couple day shipping, the company wanted me to to have them and not be lost in transit-only way it was happening) - Any way that put my dad up to figuring out how to change the springs - he came up with this hybrid - and it needs a front plate and rear plate for each spring set...
I still would recommend renting the correct tool, Jake |
