Smile attempting o-ring fix on IP

Picked up all parts and tools to do this job. Does the fuel deleivery valve come apart as you are pulling it out? If so, is there any proceedure to take it out and or put it back together? I'm doing this without taking off the intake manifold as described in an earlier post. Thanks to the person who posted it. Does anyone have part numbers and vendor for replacing o-rings in Viton to prolong lifespan. This forum has been great in providing information.

I've not removed mine so can't say for certain, but i beleive it has a 1/2" nipple inserted into the IP and pulls straight out.

The o-ring part sizes were posted recently as was a photo of the shutoff valve.

If you dont find them PM me and I will send tham to you this evening when am at home.

Thank you, I bought the OEM o-rings from the dealer and if it's easy enough I'll pull them back out again and replace with the Viton ones. I'm betting I won't want to do this job very often.

you need 12 total- 6 rubber and 6 copper crush washers. be carefuland read the directions on this, if they aren't torqued correctly, they will leak!

Watch for the spring!!! I lost one and had to get one from Germany when I did mine.

I would also advise removing the intake manifold. 20 minutes of removal time will make the job SOOOOOOOOO much easier.

Wow...my post was way off base...read too fast and thought the question was concerning the shut off valve o-ring. Missed "delivery" valve completly.

Angry IP disaster

I started the job last night and I didn't go as planned. The delivery valves were a real mother to get out. I dropped one of the springs and was unable to find it. Need to go to the dealer and see if they can get me one. I need to at least fix that one to move it. It is impossible to torque them with the intake on. My wife suggests I take it somewhere and get it fixed. After all the fuss, I totaly agree. I have no doubt that this problem was caused by the changeoever to ULSD in that I first developed leaks in the clear lines and onced fixed had new leaks in the IP pump delivery valves. I all happened so ubrubtly.

Yep. Like I mentioned in my post previously, I lost the spring as well. Had to come from Germany as The Stealer had none in stock.

Here are some part numbers for you:

O-ring : A 017 997 41 48

Copperseal : A 004 997 45 40

Spring : A 000 074 37 93

(these were provided to me by per eriksson when I had MY problems!)

I don't know about the change over to ULSD causing the problem.

My seals leaked and ULSD in the US hadn't even begun to be talked about and couldn't be bought in my area then and probably can't be bought today, so ULSD had nothing to do with my leaks. I think the thing just leaks on it's own, after about ten years, well after the warranty period that Mercedes cover those 2 dollar rubber parts that they put on their $70,000.00 (at the time) cars. Anyway, good luck. And when a leak occurs, just fix it. 603 pumps are a piece of cake now, based on the information one can get at this site. When I first started, it was a night mare. And then Mercedes designers always put SKULLS designed into their components to help SCARE YOU AWAY, if you are unsure of what you are doing. Mercedes also design the male's reproductive organ EVERYWHERE on the cars that I own. So, when you screw up and get stuck, you have to look at that MALE REPRODUCTIVE ORGAN staring at you. And if you aren't careful, you can almost feel like one of those hoses (female end) being pulled over one of those male reproductive organ, tipped steel lines. Anyway, you can't get discouraged, no matter what you tear up. I think it is better to screw your ownself, rather than let somebody else screw you, and then you have to pay them on top of it.

Delivery Valve Spring

Folks,

After I retired, I worked as a Bosch Fuel Injection Tech Rep for a little while.

Go to your local Fuel Injection Test/Calibrate shop....they should have some in stock, or perhaps a used one in a tin can someplace.....

SB,

You sound like the right guy to ask:

When I did mine, my magnet also pulled up a lower sleeve along with the spring, piston, and sleeve at the top. The bottom one has a slot milled into it, and two different sized holes oriented at 90 deg to the slot. I pulled another one also to see how they went back in, and it looked like the slot should be to the rear, and they went back together smoothly like that.

However, these two valves are still not delivering. Is there some kind of pin that dropped out when the bottom sleeve got pulled? Do I need to replace the pump?

Thanks,
Gerry Visel
