1980 300D 225800 miles and still rumbling in Portsmouth, New Hampshire!! [Edited by Dan Fitzpatrick on 04-12-2001 at 04:25 PM] |
We have more diesel MBs as petrol MBs in the netherlands. There are a terrible lot of C class and E class diesels on our roads.
1993 C250D with 369.000km in the netherlands greetingz, |
Certainly not the oldest, nor the most used, but I LOVE my baby. Smokey is garaged in Sacramento, CA.

1980 240D 224 kmiles. Ivory. Car spent first 12 years of her life in California. Doesn't have the block heater, which I could have used last January.
I going to do a life test on her. I'm going to keep fixing her until the engine or the tranny has a major failure. I don't care if body parts fall off while I'm driving to work in the morning, but I'm going to see how far she will go. Collinsville, Illinois, about 16 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. |
Columbus, Ohio. Bought here in town. Silver with blue MB-Tex (191,000 miles).
240Joe: Im doing the same with mine. Keep it in good running order until a engine or tranny problem. My sister and i both agree it will make it to the 350-400K range. But please dont continue to drive it without doors!!!! |
In Louisiana USA - 1995 S-350 137,000 miles but racking up about 1,000 miles per week. I'll get there--that medallion I mean.

In Broomfield, CO:
1981 300SD - 232k miles and mechanically superb 1991 300D - 163k miles and begging for more 1976 300D - 260k miles and starting to rust (the rust matches the orange paint, so it's not too bad) |

If the doors fall off, I still have the seat belt to hold me in. Therefore, doors are optional. Joe |
The Dumpling, an 83 240D, has 291k and lives in Charlotte NC. He enjoys chattering with other diesels at stoplights and having a go with the occasional GEO Metro.

I'm in Wilmington, NC with my diesel. I don't see as many diesel MBs as I used to around this neck of the woods. Now I see the newer MBs, especially E Class.. and have been a little surprised to see the number of E55 MBs around here. I have seen 2 cars in town EXACTLY like mine.. once when I stopped to fill up with fuel, we looked like a mirror image at the tanks. By the way, diesel was $1.35 on Monday but may go up around here any minute.. I have to admit that I'm really tired of the lies about "why diesel is priced as high as it is". But SAY LA VEE.

My sig. answers most of the original questions. I emailed MBUSA asking about what my car cost new. They sent me a photocopy of the original dealer invoice, FROM 1980. The car was manufactured in April '80 (from door jam). The car was bought by a dealer in Rockville Center, NY on June 6,1980 for a cost of $26,835. That's dealer cost, retail was $33,473. I gather the car has been an East Ccoast car all this time. The color, per the invoice, is called simply Champagne metallic. I always called it gold. I live in south central NJ. There are only a few W116s running around here, and that's the way I like it.

The Only One
Greetings,
Got a '80 300TD wagon here at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, and haven't seen a single station wagon since I have lived here the last 17 years. I'm special I guess, sure turns the heads wondering what the hell I'm driving. Got 159,000 on the clock and love the smell of diesel in the morning noon or night. If it didn't burn diesel, I wouldn't want her, the sound of working ponies is music to my ears. I enjoy the occasionaly wave of the hand from the very few MB owners I pass during my daily commute. They know what I know, it's not a car it's part of the family. Charles |
My 1987 300D Turbo has been in Orange County, California all it's life. It was/is a daily commuter with a lot of cross-country road trips under it's wheels. My sister-in-law was the original and only owner until she sold it to me last November. 291,500 miles as of yesterday...
|
My 84' 300d is gone now to Michigan, but it spent it's entire life in the south! Bought new at Park Place Motors in Dallas and then sold at MB auction with 26k(86')to the next owner here south of Chattanooga. There it spent the next 17yr(172k miles) going back and forth to Hartsfield Intl. She was in great shape with no rust and no A/C, but all records and a pampered life! I only put a few 100 miles on her but I miss her already. I know she is in good hands, except for the future rust in her life!

My '80 300SD (Eduardo) has 196K and is resting in storage currently :( My replacement for Eduardo, a 1983 300D has just turned 291,000 and runs sweet as can be. Every employee including the owner and his wife at Precision Motorcars drive a Mercedes diesel. Cincinnati, with it's large, German conservative population has lots of MBs, diesel and gas. |
Goldsboro, NC

My '84 300DT which I acquired at 241K miles still runs strong at 327K. Can't wait to see the odo hit 400K.

Diesel Locations
Like CJ, I reside in Maryland. However I am south of him / her in Leonardtown.
My 92 300D 2.5 Turbo is a joy to own. Bought her with 166,000 showing for $9000 and have never looked back. At the rate I drive I'll own her for another 20 years. |
Ft Walton Beach, FL for the E300. Gave my 83 300D (160K) to my daughter in Minnesota at Christmas.

My light ivory '79 300SD has lived in Iowa her whole life. She has the rust to prove it. The original owner was a snowbird who drove to Florida every year. She put major miles on it in 4 years, and had it serviced in Minnesota.
It has 342,000 miles on it, and if my life is ever more organized I will send away for my medallions. I'm replacing the rocker panels, and the inner frame rails this summer, hopefully. I have them here waiting. They are gorgeous, and my baby will cry when she gets to wear them for the first time. I noticed that this year all of my pulleys have gone south. I lost the A.C. compressor, the water pump, and the alternator all this winter. I think they were all original. I never see any W116 300SD's here in Des Moines, but I see many perfect 240D's. The strange thing is they are all light ivory. Patsy |
Columbus Ohio
191,000miles
Bought and driven around here. Getting the rims refinished this week! 1 at a time, man what a difference! |
1982 300D Turbo 188,000 mi. in Phoenix, AZ. Originally purchased in Kansas, not sure when it was brought to AZ but must have been early since it has no rust.

Macon, Ga area
1985 300D turbo - recently purchased at 217k miles. Now showing 219k. Daily driver/commuter/around town car. No rust anywhere and drives down the road great.
1995 E320 1997 CRV |
I have a 1980 300 SD, 196,000 miles. We live in Shelton, WA (northwest of Olympia). My 16 year old son drives to school every day. A friend of ours has a '78 300 D. Their daughter drives it to the same school. There are only two Benz cars in the school parking lot and both are diesels. As time goes on it will be my hand me down to restore. I really like this car.

As far as the most diesels, I'd guess Germany, where even most of the taxicabs are MB diesels.
Mine is a 300D 2.5turbo, 125 K miles, Tuscaloosa, AL. Got the car thru e-bay (!) and picked it up from Houston. MB service records indicate the car spent most of its life in Hartford, CT, then went thru a Starmark auction. |
NE(DFW) Texas is my vote for the most diesels
1985 300SD 298K(I owned this car from 1991-1994..sold it at 208K)...now for sale again $4500.00 Car spent all its life in the Dallas area 1992 300D 2.5 260K(I owned this car from 1994-1997...sold it at 207K) Car spent all its life in the Dallas area Warren 1992 300SD 114K Columbus Ohio(via Dallas Tx) turner@greif.com |
My ol'girl was in the family, my parents, since she was 3miles old.
I bought her two years ago with 76K miles and she just turned 100K. I slowly have gotten her to look like new, my mechanic says she's got the cleanest engine he's ever seen! :) 1985 300D turbo, anthricite w/tan MBtex. Tustin, Ca. |
Where are the most deisels
So California. '84 300D. Bought it @ 81M Just turned 375M today!! Yeah. Original engine, original trans. original timing chain (On borrowed time!) original injectors. New timing chain and tensioner, sprocket gears and injectors next week. Survived 1 suicide deer. Trans seals leak a little. Rear end clunks a little from the MB trans kick. On 4th or 5th Battery. 2nd starter 2nd alternator. Dash has only a 3/8" crack. Maybe good for another 100K?
