For one thing the strip fuse should not only be replaced if it looks old because they do sag, crack, corrode, and fail. Usualy on a nice rainy night when you are in a good suit. But since they cost a whole $.30 each I bought a bunch and keep one in the glove box! First thing I checked on the SD, good thing there wasn't much left...

Old glow plugs are a pita, if they are working fine leave them. But if they are 20 years old and one maybe two are shot just replace them all. The first owner got 20 good years out of them why not you?

I have these old cars figured out pretty well and am able to operate the SD for close to nothing in a pretty reliable manner. I know what breaks and what to replace before it causes problems!

I can see messing around with glow plugs on the older engines, but not the 603 and especialy not the 606. Just not worth it, IMHO.

........go back and reread post #42.
