Question 93 300D disel mileage loss after repair

Hello all,

Am quite at a loss over the issue: Avalve almost directly under the injection pump. The valve has 4 3/8" connection onto it, one (the front one) going to the fuel filter assembly, two middle to the firewall (I assume to the tank) the forth to a side pipe also going to the rear of the vehicle.
This infamous valve begun lealink about two weeks ago, I removed it capped the hoses went to my dealer and purchased the restore kit (one O-ring and a washer) they called it a "monovalve". The kit resolved my leak.
Now the question:
My mileage went from around 31-32 on highway to 22-24.......checked all around the unit to see if I had disconnected any hoses or damaged any other items in the process, but was unable to see any thing damaged.

What could I have possibly done by repairing this valve to make this drastic change in my fuel milage?

Any hints/suggestions are greatly apreciated.

Adriano

Unlikely to be coincidental in my opinion as well. But is always a possibility. Inspection of area with a mirror might show something? I am not familiar with this engine or it's layout. Could the valve assembley have been re installed backwards? If you find out it's exact function you should be able to test it for it's proper function. That is a tremendous milage drop to experience. You might want to consider having the codes checked if that valve affects the injection system. Might tell the tale.

is this a coolant valve or fuel valve?

if coolant, possibly you did not get all the air out of the system and you are having overheating issues with the motor?
sorry, I also do not know this motor.

Thank you guy's for posting your thoughts.

It is a 5 cyl (Inline) 2.5L Diesel turbocharged.
Thought I had gotten all the air out of the system before firing it up, but maybe I didn't.....could that be the culprit?

Thanks.

Why don't you try replacing the rebuilt part with a new one?
