Interesting commercial.......

G'mornin' Folks,

I know that this is a Honda commercial, and it is not a diesel.....but because most of y'all who read this diesel forum seem to be interested in all sorts of neat stuff......

The following is a partial copy of an e-mail that I received from an old friend....

..............letter begins...............

Watch this when you get a few minutes. It's one of the coolest commericals I have ever seen!

Read this info first, then watch the clip:

And you thought those people that set up roomfuls of dominos to knock over were amazing. There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film.
Everything you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it.

The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again.
The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was over they were ready to change professions.

The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete including full engineering of the sequence. In addition, it's two minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television, they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime.

However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement in Internet history. Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for itself simply in "free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have you watch this commercial!).

When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it immediately without any hesitation--including the costs.

There are six and only six hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make the film.

Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp, and complete Honda Accord) is parts from those two cars.

The voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics have gotten.

They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real. Oh, and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing their thing automatically as soon as they become wet.

...........end of letter..........

Sorry if I am out of line for posting this here......

That was cool!

Like the Accord wagon to, to bad we can't get them here. Wouldn't one with AWD and a diesel engine be nice.

The current European market Accord shown in the commercial is offered here in the U.S. re-badged as an Acura TSX (only as a sedan here in the U.S.).

I too would love the wagon variant... one of the sharpest looking wagons on the market... throw in the diesel powerplant and im sold.

Hattie, you think we could convince Acura that america will buy a diesel TSX wagon?

You would think the Japan carmakers would figure out how popular diesels in their car's would be, 50+ mpg, their known reliability, etc...and the fact that volkswagen's average "time on the lot" for their diesels is like 3 days, and for gassers its like 16. Does VW even offer any diesels right now? I saw a cdi MB 320 at the dealer last week, I drooled all over myself....

Not in our lifetimes. My parents are currantly shopping for a new car for my mom, a diesel anything isn't on her list. If it gets somewhere in the 20mpg range, is quite and powerfull moms happy. And that makes dad happy!

Could Honda get my mom into an Accord wagon? Most certainly, 07 Accords are about $20,500 in my area, price a wagon for about that and sign her up. A diesel wagon? Certainly not.

Sadly a great number in this country don't want to be bothered with diesels. As a result we can only enjoy the sweetness of cars like the E400CDI on European trips.

Here is a Honda Diesel Commercial

This is an animated commercial to change the perception of the dirty, noisy diesel engine.

Very cool video but I am very skeptical that it was done physically, it "feels" like computer animation and a few of the parts do seem to defy gravity. Looks like something pixar could have done.

Rube Goldberg himself would be proud! That was cool, but I don't think those tires had enonugh force to roll the way they did. I think there was some editing or some kind of "helping along" with that.

I think all they did was add balance weights, you can see it rock on the heavy side when it stops

Actually they do! As far as I know, both Toyota as well as Nissan have large sedan diesels. That's all they ever use for taxis in Singapore and many other parts of asia. And just about any truck you see is diesel, even the small little pickups. I was shocked when I came to Canada and saw people driving 3/4 ton trucks that were gassers !! In fact, I'm still wondering why people need 4 and 5 litre gasser cars when everybody drives so slow! I mean, if they wanted fast, why not a WRX or EVO? Or do what I did, and got a 750 YZF
