Springs for the 300SD
I've been thinking about upgrading my rear springs. I'd like the back of the car to stand a little taller, and i'd like it if the car road level, or maybe a little higher then level when i have people in the back seat.
what is a good after market spring or an 84 300SD?

The heavy duty ones on fastlane are excellent, I think they are Lemforder brand, which is OEM. We put them on our '83, helped a lot with weight handling and ride height.

You probably don't need springs for the SD. The first thing to check is whether you've got the capability to go to thicker rubber spring pads above the spring. The 19mm pad is the thickest available. It's stock on the SDL, but, the SD might just use a thinner pad. If it does, then your solution costs you about $20. versus about $160. for a pair of springs.
DO NOT purchase any "heavy duty" springs in the valiant hope to increase your ride height. The vehicle will ride like the proverbial brick........it's ride is none too good with the factory springs. If you're adamant about new springs, purchase a custom set with the same spring rate but with slightly longer length. The cost is about the same. |
