Another water leak! '83 300CD

Just when I thought all the water leaks were solved, I've got another two bloomin' leaks.

Heavy rain causes some water in the passenger floor board. It's not towards the center of the car - it's all the way on the right-hand edge of the floorboard. It has to be rain - AC evap drain is Coke-bottled and A/C hasn't been used lately. Any ideas on this? Sunroof drains maybe? Or some other drains I'm unaware of?

There are few things that drive me up the wall like water leaks.

I also have a VERY small leak in the trunk. On the driver's side of the trunk, heavy rain causes a couple drips in. I'm guessing rear window seal though it looks like it's in perfect condition to the eye, I'm almost sure that it is original as I know the glass is original.

Any thoughts, hints, or suggestions would be most welcome.

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say it's one of two possible issues (for the main leak).

1: Your windshield seal is old and leaking on the right hand side. 20+ year old rubber tends to deteriorate over time, and can easily dump a half a cup of water (or more) into your car, if the rains are heavy enough.

2: A rust hole, or a clogged drain. The former is what my issue was. Check the drain pockets under the hood hinges, and make sure they're draining under the car properly. If you have time, remove the battery, and check for any rust holes under the tray (or against the firewall). Be sure to use a flashlight.. I almost missed the hole that formed on my firewall.. which was dumping a good deal of water into my car during heavy rains.

3: Something completely different. Leaky door seals, side-window seals? Not as likely, but it is possible.

I doubt it's your sunroof drains, since most of those issues usually result in either a wet headliner, or in the very least, a clogged drain dumping water into the back seat area. At any rate, good luck!

I just replaced my hardened, cracked, leaky windshield gasket the day after Labor Day. Had the same exact symptoms as you, and I tried looking elsewhere to find the source of the leak. Windshield seal was my last resort. I was on edge hoping the guy wouldn't bend the trim. No leaks so far. New windshield thumbs up, old one was hazy and irritating and had two bullseyes in it.

Agreed.

Either windshield gaskets or rust hole behind battery. Also agree with clogged drain pocket. If so, then clean them with a piece of string trimmer line so as not to scratch the paint causing problems with rust down the road.

Cheers,

Bill
