1983 W126 300sd
im going to go look at a 300SD saturday with a friend hopefully, hes buying it and im the resident mbz specialist.. what W126 only. things should i look at.. all i know is the AC is kaput, it has a solid body, new front seats, tranny slips a little(vaccuum?) i have no idea on miles.. ill post a vin so someone can run a carfax for me(please
 )) the owner also owns an E320, an 01 SLK and used to run a mercedes garage. thanks

I would think the a/c is an important negotiating point.Rust is always important,maintanance records,engine blow by,and of course a good test drive.

of the two I have,
Rust is the big issue on the PC, front subframe on the lower portion, rusted through. check the jack points, look for NEW UNDERCOATING that is a big red flare for me. carefully inspect the front swaybar, where it passes through the false firewall, lots of rust there, very hard to repair. the dash is all electronic, so if the tach and odo/speedo are non sequitor, it can be tricky to repair.
listen for noises as you drive over bumps. suspention components are due to fail. windows, seats, door locks, etc etc... John
