How many gallons of fuel can you put in?

What is the most fuel you have ever been able to pump into your tank?

I drove my 1981 300SD till the fuel gauge was far lower the normal for me.

She took 16.014 gallons of diesel.

I've gone 423 miles on a tank before in normal driving, and it took 18.7 gallons to fill.....but when I first got the car, and was driving back to MI from PA, I ran out along side the freeway in MI because the gauge stuck at half and I didn't know it had that issue. Needless to say, it gladly chugged down over 22 gallons, 4 from a couple cans a state trooper helped us get, and another 18.5 when we got to the fuel station. Total distance traveled when we ran out (it was my dad and I) was 514.3 miles. Made it from a BP station in Harrisburg, PA to just south of Battle Creek Michigan on one tank.

I have a very, very, lead foot. What is your driving style? My average was 22.6mpg on that tank when I went 423 miles (mostly city)....its about average for me when I am leadfooting it. I have been being lighter on the pedal lately....too expensive. When I am nice to it I get about 24-25 city.

500 on 17 is excellent! was it city or hwy or 55mph driving?? Thats 29mpg! Highest I got this summer was 30.4mpg when I did all 55mph driving for about 400 miles and liiiightly accelerated and slowed waaay down before stop signs. (lots of coasting)

Well, you probably know my deal...........getting to the next red light is not exactly high on my priority list..........68 mph is typical on the highway.

My driving is 90% highway.

I've been taking it easy lately, I sometimes coast enough to make it through almost all the lights on my way to school without having to completely stop. I have learned the ways of not racing to red lights......its much more relaxing too, especially with nice classical music from Sirius Radio Playing.

My real leadfooting ended when diesel went above $2.35ish a gallon. Now I just occassionally do it to feed the "need to hear the 617 roar"

I have to do that at least twice per tank. I have two on ramps where I run it up to 4000 rpm in 3rd and watch the cloud behind me in the dark.

My reserve tank warning light is just a few miles away from turning on and I have driven 340 miles, which is as far as I usually go before filling. It'll usually take 17 gallons. I dunno if my fuel guage is inaccurate or what. The odo seems almost dead on accurate with my gps.

The most I've put in was 21.

MY99 E300, the first week I had it, I ran it pretty low, and I'll try not to do that again.

The lowest miles per tank I've had so far is 450. I've made it just north of 600 a couple of times. I do have to say, I have a highway commute to work. On my regular 4 day pattern, I can go all week without a fill up. It usually takes about 20 gallons at that point. I figure my normal mpg is 29.

On my other car, that has a onboard trip computer, my average speed is 56mph, and 27.5 mpg.

Most I've put in was 19, I think...the light usually comes on when I have 5 or 6 gallons left. Seems like I could get about 500 from a tank, but I've never gone beyond 450.

I've got the CA car...I get 24 mpg on B99 and used to get 25 on dino-D, but with the new stuff it seems more like 22.

The most I have ever put into the 98 E300TD was 19.5 gals....I was told by an old diesel gear head years ago when I had the 300SDs to never run the tanks low or dry. He said that diesel fuel has an affinity for water and that if you run the tanks low, down to the last ounces you will suck "wet fuel" He also said to keep the tank topped off as much as possible to keep water from condensing out of the air trapped in the top of the tank....less air..less water I guess.

I have gotten 33 cruising at 85+ and a little city. Made it north of 650 miles at that time with good fuel. I have filled it to 26.5 and that means I top it off till any more will leak out.

I filled up this morning 18.1 gallons in my SD and thats the most I have filled up in a while. Normally its around 17. The problem is that once I get past that 1/4 of a tank left, my fuel gauge becomes very unreliable. In addition my reserve light is always on.... I wish I knew what to do about that.

words of wisdom there

especially in winter i try never to let it go below 1/4

after all if you burn say 1/2 a tank going average 55mph that's around 5 hours in the chair ... maybe time to take a pit stop one way or the other no?
