injector leaking

My mothers car has a leak at the injector base where it screws in to the engine. Can i just tighten it. Does it require a certain torque. RAY M

Eventually the return hoses get brittle and fuel collects at the base of the injector.

If you're sure fuel is leaking up from the prechambers then you have a compression leak. Get a new heat shield (~$1.50) and torque the injector to 50 lbft. Get an injector socket that fits well or you'll bend the return nipples and you'll have a worse leak.

Before doing anything else, get the light brown return hose from a Mercedes parts dept and replace all of them. I fought this "injector leak" problem for a week and it was defective hoses purchased from an independant parts dept. I went so far as to replace one injector and still had diesel leaking overnight prior to replacing these hoses. Easy to mis diagnose!

last winter i replaced the injectors on my 300sd , after a day or so i noticed there was fuel around the base of the injectors so i took them out and wrapped the threads with teflon tape and now no leak persists. Btw you can make your own socket if you wish by notching out the socket on opposite sides of each other if you want to save some cash. Its a bit of a time consumer but can easily be done with a grinder.
