Hemmoraging Trans fluid

Crusing along south on 131 today and suddenly I need my wipers, it isn't raining nor is there water on the road. I pull over kill the motor and set my 4 ways. Pop my hood and there is trans fluid EVERYWHERE :disappoin Yep its all over the ground too. :wtf: I am going to pick it up tonight. Any ideas? What would cause such a massive failure. I wasn't losing speed or anything. What happened. Please help me!!!!!!!!

Check the short little hoses that attach to the radiator at the bottom, those are the transmission cooling hoses, I'll bet one split and was spraying fluid up and out and not enough was lost to affect tranny operation (which is GOOD).

Are you in Michigan? US131 is in Michigan....just wondering!

Could be but could also be a power steering line.

Oil threads:silly:

Cheers,

Nope, when i picked it up last night i put it in gear and no go. :( poured one quart into the pan (that is all i had) and saw it start shooting so i drove it onto the trailer at 10mph, definiately a harrowing experience. Strapped it down good and got in my buddy's Dodge 3500 with a v10  Drove it home while his senile 95 year old mother was flirting with me (no i don't date women that are 77 years older than me) :dizzy2: I am going to have a fun night tonight, does anyone know what size the at cooler hose is? If they do I could pick it up while i am at work and delay any delays. thanks

You had said tranny oil everywhere but tranny seemed fine. Thats what made me think PS lines.

Man. So sorry to hear that. At least the car let you know by the oil spray all over your windshield.

Let us know how things work out. I'm going to check my lines.;)

Cheers,

Bill

220mm for mine.

Here's a link:http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1VR0H0J541WD0SF8FJ&year=1985&make=MB&model=300-TDT-001&category=J&part=AT+Cooling+Hose

Maybe you can get a hydraulic shop to make them up for you today? Possible I guess.

Cheers,

Bill

My hoses are pretty beat, good idea to replace them. I looked up the part for my car (85 300DT, CA smog version) and have a choice of two, for different transmissions: 722.315 or 722.416. I thought I had a 722.3 tranny (4 speed auto) but that was just from looking at books and reading this forum. Is there a tag or markings on my tranny somewhere so I can confirm the number and be sure I'm getting the right part?

Jeremy
