I've Started a Local Diesel Population Boom

Well ever since purchasing my 300d last april a lot of people I know have been jumping on the diesel bandwagon. My friend bought a 79 240d in June, I bought 2 more euro 300ds (one for brother, other is a project), my math teacher just purchased a 1999 vw jetta tdi, another friend just got a 2003 jetta tdi, one friend is trying to sell his ranger in hopes of getting a VW rabbit diesel, another is contemplating a Mitsubishi Mightymax 4wd turbodiesel and my dad wants either a w123 (my friends uncle has an 83 300d with 90k that we want) or w124 diesel. Also my neighbor across the street is looking for a cdi or e300 turbodiesel.

I'd say thats not bad. I've talked to all of them about the cars and they are all excited about the ability to run bio diesel and of course the better fuel economy.

Has anyone else convinced friends/family to get in the game?

7 degrees of diesel seperation?

well, maybe not but at least 4 degrees for me :D

I have my diesels, then
my friend buys a 300CD, then
his friend buys a 300E, then
his girlfriend buys a 240D

a friend of hers is now considering one too.

its spreading :D

Reasons?

Why are these people all buying diesels? It can't be for the economy -- not with diesel more expensive than RUG -- and there are lots of cars that get 30+ MPG these days. Do they all thing they're gonna run B100 or convert to WVO, thus saving the world? Have they all suddenly fallen in love with M-B or the wonderful people on this forum? It's great that this is happening but I'm curious as to their reasons.

I also observed that not a lot of people know that diesels can run on veggie oil too. It's like an underground thing for us I guess... :D
