Sporadic loss of power

My '82 240D manual sometimes looses power randomly. For example, I'll be driving along on the interstate doing 65 and the car will start slowing down, even with the pedal on the floor. The problem will then go away just as sudden as it appeared. I also noticed that when the engine is under a lot of stress, such as climbing up a mountain and I'm in 2nd gear with the pedal on the floor, I can feel a slight hesitation as higher rpms. Any ideas?? I went ahead and purchased some diesel purge and new fuel filters but haven't had a chance to do that yet.

Thanks,

Scott

suggestions

Check fuel supply, replace filters, replace or clean tank screen. Do a close and thorough visual inspecton, especially vaccum lines and fuel hoses, check connections. Symptom sounds like a fuel problem, I could be wrong, it happened once before- when I got married, LOL:fork_off:

I'm afraid I can't offer a fix, but my 82 CD used to do the exact same thing.

cruising about 70, pedal to floor and it starts slowing down. it would get down to about 60 and then wake back up and come back up to speed. I tried EVERYTHING, but yet it still did it. Somewhere along the line I must have inadvertently fixed it, it hasn't done it in almost a year now.
