Question Wanting Some Advice

Hello All! I am new to the group, and a relatively new Mercedes Owner. I have a 1978 240D Manual Trans Sedan. The vehicle is a smooth runner, but sluggish. I recently bought a 1984 300D Turbo with an automatic transmission. I have seen a few posts on this forum about the question I have... which is...
Can the 1984 300D engine fit up to the 1978 240D 4-speed trans? As far as I can tell, I would need the flywheel for the 240D, and possiblt have to shortem the shift rods for the trans. Do I need a sandwich plate adapter for the bell housing??? Let me know, I am curious as to how this might work, and looking forward to a fun project for the winter.

yes it should work.

run some searches for 300d with stick, 300d / 240d swap, etc. this subject has been discussed quite a bit.

check back after reading some.

there are at least three fairly current threads on this subject right now.
