My 300 turbo d will not kick down when the accelerator is pressed. i have tried everything to no avail. i really dont need this car, it seemed like it would make a nice addition to the fleet, but it is unbearable to drive without the switch working. I think im gonna take everything i need off of it and send it to the yard.

if its the kickdown switch order a new one or find one that works.... what condition is the car in... dont give up too easily..you cant give up..

I replaced the switch and can hear it woking when stepped on.
I have put way to much time into this car. Its frusturating :behead:

fuses? all conections to the tranny? adjust the bowden cable lately?

Have you checked fluid level? Tension on the Bowden Cable? I tightened mine up a bit and it'll kickdown most of the time just fine without the switch, which doesn't work. Is this all that's wrong with it? Give it to me, not the junkyard!

On one of the cars I used to own. I picked up 12 volts from one of the wires going to the center console area and jumped it to the kickdown switch which made it work like it was supposed to.

Fluid level good. played with the bowden cable all day, differences in shifts but no kickdown . The fuses appear to be good. I also changed the vacume modulator and the k-1 spring cause it slipped between gears. Fixed the slip but no kickdown. I thought this car was a steal, but its just a huge Pain in the butt now.

did you try some trans x.. could be some varnish build up in the valve body...

Did you verify 12 volts to the switch on the transmission? My 81 300CD would not kick down when I had adjusted the shift points to be too early. Should be 12 volts to the switch under the gas pedal on one side then when depressed, 12 volts out the other side to the switch on the trans.

yes it is getting 12 volts to the switch. by changing the shift points you mean adjusting the bowden cable?

car was 500 bucks. you can find better ones for the same price if you know where to look. getting my money back is not likely. might as well part it and junk it. way too frusturating. :(

what is the condition of the car.. might as well just keep it as a parts car.. very useful

Just manually downshift using the shift lever, tiptronic style ;)

For $500 you gotta convert some things to manual operation!
