Keyed Lugnut Removal
I just discovered that I have keyed lugnuts on all 4 of my wheels when I was trying to change my brake pads today. Are these standard on the cars, or is it aftermarket? How would I be able to get it off? I don't mind damaging it, since I want to get rid of it and replace with a standard one from the junk yard anyway. Large pliars didn't work...

The cheap China made sockets will usually do the job and they are real cheap. 'Snap On' makes a lug nut removal kit...although WAY expensive...try your local repair shop to see if they can use theirs on your lugs. .

Apply some penetrating oil first, and heat might help loosen it.

I bought a set of 5 for $25 at my local Sears. They are Craftsman brand. AutoZone sells them as well.

Remove the other sixteen bolts and take it for a short drive...
All joking aside, this happened to a friend of mine. Some punks stole his car and wanted the wheels, and used the above procedure to remove them. Somehow they got themselves caught in the act, which is how we know their procedure. Of course, the wheels didn't fare as well as they would have, had the proper key or removal tools been used. But at least he got his car back with the wheels, and not too much damage. |

Theres no room to get a removal socket on this thing, tried drilling into it, and it barely left a scratch... It BROKE my locking pliars, flattened all the little teeth. This is really a pain... Ths thing is made of diamonds or something.

A sure way to get them out is to weld nuts to the outer surfaces. A good welder could do this without damaging the wheels.

Thats is just a gorilla lock avail at any autozone. I believe they all have the same keys?!

FINALLY got them off, my brake pads were down to the metal. Took it to a tire place and they tok them off with an air hamme for $10
