I paid $7000 for my '91 350SD and although it did need some upkeep (motor mounts, aux fans, fan clutch, t-stat, etc.) and I did invest in a GreaseCar system and BC's EGR test kit, I still think I got a decent deal. Mine at 214k also has more miles than this one, though - but I'm not sure that's such a bad thing considering these motors seemed to bend rods at earlier mileage... I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that mine is one of the good ones! It's still the nicest car I've ever owned, so I hope I can drive it for many years/miles.

Not sure what this one has for $75K sticker price but all I can think is the first owner got ripped off in a very big way. Sticker price on mine from the European import program was $53K. Unless they put a 4Matic in back in '91, massage seats and a jacuzzi I can't see a sticker that high.
Mine has every option except for rear adjustable seats and heated front seats. Doesn't seem like it's worth 22K extra. Original engine in there? Otherwise have to factor in risk of rod bender. Should try some fool on ebay. |
Wow, I should put my SDL on ebay with an $8k reserve and see where it goes.:D
$25k is nuts for that car, one could just about get a W211 for that. |

for 25K you can probably get an MB starmark diesel or it will go 50% of the way for a new CDI...

Advertise the crap out of it at $25k and see what you get. The car is worth exactly what someone will give you for it. Those of us that are a bit more pragmatic will probably not take you up on the deal but someone just might, and it only takes one person to prove your point.

Look at it this way...for $25K you could lease a brand new E350 or E320 for 3 or more years and walk away from it. After 3 years of daily driving that SDL would be practically worthless anyway.
Difference here is that you could drive a brand new '06 car with a full factory warranty and enjoy it for all that time worry free or spend another $10K keeping an old SDL on the road on top of paying $25K for it up-front...I'd take the '06 in a heartbeat. |
