83 300SD: Introductions and a few questons
Hi gang -- I'm the proud new owner (well for about a month) of an 83 300SD (just rolled to 94k miles!!)
I have a few questions that maybe yall can help me with. The idle is very rough -- I had it at a shop to get the ball joints and some other front end work donw -- the guy says one of my injectors is still clogged (there were 2) and that I might need to put another treatment of fuel injector cleaner. I'm currently running on about a 50/50 mix of dino and biodiesel -- is it cool to add that on top? I need to research injector replacement -- that seems the next step. Now for the cars story as I have it. I found the car on craigs list in st. louis (i'm in atlanta -- but my parents live near there) my dad went and checked it out and we decided it was worth it and we bought it. It hasjust over 94k miles and is in pretty cream puff shape -- interior is nice -- a few tears in the vinyl on the door posts by the seat belts (suggestions??), the AC is kaput (working on that -- also diagnosed by mechanic -- needs a new ETR switch -- or sensing module -- the one with the cable -- confirmed by jumping those wires together) and the right rear window slides down on it's own. The tach wasn't working -- but I just did the hose wash fix today -- and it's working for now -- we'll see how long it lasts. Also the cruise doesn't work. Not to worried about that -- might consider fixing before next road trip -- but I don't need cruise in town. Ahh! One more story that warmed my heart. While driving it back to ATL i had a flat (dry rotted tire) and when i went to retrive the lug wrench -- found the tool kit still enclosed in it's plastic bag -- I hated to tear it open -- but didn't think I could change the tire with my bare hands! I've already found this forum a great resource and look forward to posting my successes, questions and wishful plans in the future. I'm totally pumped to be a Diesel Benz owner. here's some pix of the car: took kit http://static.flickr.com/63/231228731_94d36c23d2.jpg?v=1157144493 From the front: http://static.flickr.com/60/217229900_6bb70d4050.jpg?v=0 Drivers side: http://static.flickr.com/79/217333719_ee2295692f.jpg?v=0 |

Try Diesel Purge or Sea Foam before you replace the injector(s).

Ahhh yes -- I have that on order from DieselGiant (at least i think i do -- no email conf for some reason ) as well as his suggested injector cleaner. Someone else suggested an "Italian tune up" (running it up a hill in 1st to keep the revs up), and i do love driving it.
Thanks for the hearty welcome all -- and yeah I love the color too (my brother calls it watered down lime jello -- he doesn't seem as fond of it as I am :-D) |
