Nice idea. I wouldn't have any use for it but sure would like to see some options that could be swapped for the ashtray. Something like a coin holder for example.

Any other ideas for the space?

I'll probably use that space for pre and post intercooler water temps. (Afor an air-water intercooler)

I'm building a three-gauge panel for that space -- turbo boost, EGT (sensor in the manifold, before the turbo), and voltmeter. The panel will be zebrawood backed with aluminum. I haven't figured out yet how to attach the panel to the console but I'd prefer to avoid visible screwheads.

The reason for the voltmeter, winmutt, is to keep an eye on the battery and the charging system. When you first turn on the key, the battery voltage will tell you the state of health of the battery. As you know, diesels don't start well with weak batteries and tend to be more sensitive in this regard than gassers. Once the engine has started, the voltmeter will tell you how well the charging system is doing at putting energy back into the battery.

I tried to use zebrawood, but it didn't work, so I used a piece of poplar and stained it. Its held in by two angle brackets that screw into the back of the wood and then down into the top of the "vent tubing" down inside the console, holds it in there pretty good!

Here's what I have, Voltmeter, 12v outlet, and Boost Gauge:

My radio is one of the cool Kenwood ones that hides the face (it flips over itself) when the car is off.

Here's when its powered on:

That's the reason
I'm not worried whith the screwheads cause i just close the tray and voila, a normal centre console!

That's what I did with the 126; I made it a dock for my satellite radio. It works pretty nice.

I've thought about cutting a couple of holes through the front of the ashtray and installing two gauges (boost and voltage, probably). The mod would be completely reversible by putting in a new ashtray. I just hasn't made it to the top of the list yet.
