Update on 107/70 speeding ticket

First of all, I want to thank all the members who posted their advice and felt for me for the last two days or so. I know you all understand the situation but are not going to tolerate me for this stupid act that I did last Sunday morning.

I finally had the ticket squared away earlier this day. I was fined $250 and was sent to a so called Driving Safety School/Seminar which is nothing but a long series of videos of fatal wrecks and mishaps due to DUI, overspeeding, and other traffic violations such as ignoring stop signs and red lights, etc. etc. My licence will be under probation for 180 days or 6 months effective today. I am not allowed to have a single traffic violation even a parking violation or else my license will be revoked for 1 year before I will be allowed to apply for a new one with such and such conditions.

For those who got mad and hated me, I'm sorry, and I know I deserve to be punished but please don't look at me like I'm going to need to be crucified. I know that what I did is a dangerous jackass act but, I did not abuse, harrass and take advantage of any one. Lets just be thankful that no one was hurt and nothing was damaged and disturbed.

It sounds like it worked out OK, all things considered. They probably could have done more to you under the law. Now you just have to behave for 6 months.

Drive slow and careful the next half year, and hopefully it will be habit forming. I did stupid things when I was young. We all did. And we all had a few very close calls that could have gone terribly wrong if a foot or two, or a second or two had been different.
Good luck during these months. It might be a good time to find an automatic 240D. The speeding opportunities will certainly be less.......

Get a 240d.

I am in the same boat. 3 months after i got my license I pulled out infront of a fullsize gmc truck (he was doing 45, with no abs) that didnt have his lights on and the entire front end was chrome, so i didnt see him! The cops said he hit me at 40mph. I was hit in the 84 300d, in the driverside door, and jumped out of the sunroof. So the dick cops gives me a ticket for failure to yeild. So many months later now (a week ago) i got a notice saying that I got one point for causing a traffic accident and one for failure to yield. Therefore may 14 through june 14 I cannot drive AT ALL and if i get a traffic violation between now and july they will suspend my license for 6 months.

I remember reading the dmv book and it saying "three traffic accidents withing 1 year and your license will be suspended for 6 months"

But obviosuly, if you caused the accident, then you've done something else wrong, which they can give you a ticket for and make 300 dollars. So what, 3 accidents in a year, 6 points?

That happened to me once. I was making a left onto a four-lane and a guy in a white Saturn came along doing about 70 (my estimate) in the 45 zone and smacked my 76 Buick behind the left rear wheel. I was 18 and driving a POS, the other guy was 30-something and driving a new-ish somewhat nice (before the accident) car, so I got the ticket. However, I drove my POS home with a dented quarter panel, and the Saturn left on a flatbed and was presumably totaled.

turbobenz,

I have friend I help cram a 351 Windsor into a Ford Maverick. That car wouldn't wheelie but it would get one front wheel off the ground 6 inches due to the torque of the engine. He managed to rack up 23 moving violations before the DMV got around to suspending his license. It took him several years to get his license back.

our only witness thought my dad was being a dick so he refused to talk.

When he hit me I looked at his truck out my drivers side window and took note of the lack of headlights. And they were not smashed, the headlights were not damaged in the crash at all.

He was a nice guy, 24 years old said "dont feel bad kid Ive totaled 4 cars before, including my first"

I would try and fight this. At your age, your insurance rates are gonna murder you over this one, and maybe they will try and cancel you if this goes on your record as a conviction

Fight this to the death.

I know, I got 3 speeding tickets in 4 days in California, when I was 20 years old, and the DMV got really mad, and my father dropped me off his family insurance.

One of those tickets was for going 27 mph in a 25 mph zone on Russell Blvd in front of the UC Davis campus. The entire town was a speed trap then, and the city's budget was based on traffic ticket revenue, and the Judge never went to college and hated University students.

Check out www.stantheradarman.com

I am using him now to fight a bunch of speeding tickets I got, he is expensive, but I think he is worth it. He has a good reputation on the internet for getting rid of tickets in California in Court. Knows the legal tricks to make them go away.
