Did they really ever make a Fire Engine Red W123 300D?

Did they really ever make a Fire Engine Red W123 300D? The reason I am asking is that I recently saw a color chart with Fire Engine Red, DB 568

t walgamuth 09-20-2006 07:02 AM

there was a doctor here in lafayette that bought a new one around 1979.

mid 70s NAs came in red with white int. looks nice but i wont even ride in a red car.

Jim B. 09-20-2006 10:24 AM

Yes, I have seen W123 Euro diesels in Signal Rot (Signal Red)

The trunk script on the W123 euro model simply says 300D (no "DIESEL" script on the right hand side of the trunk), the US versions also have "DIESEL" or "TURBODIESEL" script on the right side of the trunk

A Fire Engine red 240D or 300D "Feuerwagen" might not get to your fire very fast though:laugh3:

MattBelliveau 09-20-2006 10:25 AM

Yeah, euros came in many different and occasionally hideous colors straight from the factory.

nazrat 09-20-2006 11:36 AM

I own a factory "fire engine red" 1984 300TD US-spec W123 wagon - does that count? I'm parting it out but if someone wanted the body/chassis for something I could be convinced to sell it.

My W124 Wagon is Willow Green with Pebble Leather. It is one of my favorite color combinations. I am bored with Palomino.

TheDon 09-20-2006 02:54 PM

mmmm mocca brown.. but anthacrite has grown on me.. my E320 Bluetech will be mocca

I know there are 50 million different shades of red, but I have seen both W123's and W126's in bright red. I am sure MB offered it at some point, actualy I think they still do.

They call it Mars Red now, it looks nice on a C, but makes the car look a bit like a Grand-Am :P

Hatterasguy 09-20-2006 09:21 PM

Mostly for girls. I'm pretty sure you can get it on the SL and CL as well.

So if I am driving a Red W124 300TDt does that mean girls will be attracted to it?

iNeon 09-20-2006 09:35 PM

Girls don't make passes at boys with stationwagons :P

Hatterasguy 09-20-2006 09:37 PM

No I was talking about C's, many a girl drives a red C240 or C230K.:D

Bright red W123's are cool, its retro totaly different.

barry123400 09-20-2006 09:42 PM

Sorry ,in my experience girls go for the green.:D The more green stuff you have the more girls. Actually bright red was considered the choice of guys trying to live their youth over again so you could qualify perhaps or perhaps not. Regional differences may apply as well but probably not. Read a survey somewhere once. I freely admit a newer survey might produce other results. Well I guess I will go and polish up my signal red 240d tomorrow morning.:D I find all kinds of women in my age group will start a conversation with me because of my dogs. The dogs are not red either. Okay, all this really means is I am less popular than my dogs I guess.

They drive those damned things like point-and-shoot cameras, too! It scares the Dustin.

Your telling me! I almost got run down buy an SLK the other day in the parking garage at school. It was cool though, she was cute.:D

Carrameow, don't you like manila beige?

A bit hard to photograph, mine is also this color and it changes with light variations. In fluorescent, it's whiter. The rest, it's more yellow.

My brother drives a Manila Beige 300D. Needless to say it sticks out slightly parked near the "twins" my Black and tan 140 and 126.

in my mind it is hard to find a benz color that looks bad.

i have had the most in ivory, maybe six.

i think my favorite may be maple yellow... had two of those in 240d flavor, thank you.

Euro red

I just saw this guy driving a red, kind of a orengy red color, notcherry red but more like european fire truck red, does anyone know what color code that maybe?

truckinik 07-21-2007 03:23 AM

Well that's a huge friggin list. Some of the supposed missing colors, are probably listed there also. People do not recognize them perhaps due to year/model exclusive colors etc. They could also be there, and just going by a different name. Sure looks pretty complete to me reguardless of a few details, or color re-names. This year, it could be "Hunter Green", next year, they name the exact same color, and mix "Forest Green". All of the other manufacturers do this, why would Mercedes, be any different..That's just an example of what Ford did, from 1991-1992 with one of their shades of green. The exact same color, has changed names about ten times since that time, yet they still haven't changed anything at all about it, aside from a name. So what's in a name anyways..?

truckinik 07-21-2007 03:28 AM

I have a neighbor who drives a Purple, Dodge Neon. His wife drives a Charcoal Jetta...
Each one of them bought their own car..I also saw a big bad biker, a few times in the past week riding a "Barbie Pink" Harley with white accents on it..Weird sense of taste some people have isn't it..

ForcedInduction 07-21-2007 03:35 AM

I've seen a signal red 300TD in the junkyard. It wasn't in very good condition, most of it was faded really badly. I didn't find out it was a true signal red until I ran the VIN through the Russian site.

I love the Manilla Beige, I had a 79 300CD that was that color once. It was just a parts car for my good 79 300CD at the time. I really like that color though. I thought the car looked really sharp, perhaps a bit 70's tackey, but sharp none the less. I was actually wishing the car had not been so far beyond repair, as I would have fixed it up if I had the ability, tools, or body work experience at the time. This was back in 2001 though, when I was working on my 79 300CD, Small block Chevy project..

That signal red on a anything other than an SL car, I imagine must look way wrong. An older SL, could look good. A 123 car, or 126 car, I think would look lousy with that color on it.. EEEWWW

I just don't like Light Ivory. It's too common a color and, IMHO, is far from the best match for the W123 style.
