oil puddle??

i've got a puddle of oil underneath the 300d everytime i park it now. puddle is about 8 inches in diameter.i just changed oil 500 miles ago and shortly thereafter i noticed the puddle. it's not leaking from the oil plug. i did check the oil level yesterday and it was over the second mark. leak looks like it's coming from the bottom driver's side of the oil filter assembly. is that where the oil sending unit is? could this be where my leak is coming from if i overpressurized the system? am i missing something?

if it didn't leak before the oil change,

odds are that you got the large o-ring on wrong. some of us have crossthreaded the hold down bolts, as well. I am still in the simple repair stage of MB knowledge, but I am getting better thanks to this site...

clean it all up, drive it a few miles to get the leak going and take pictures and post them.

A quick caution here of your oil level. Are you saying that it is above the top full mark? If so, you are risking a hazardous situation with overfill. Do NOT overfill the oil on a diesel. Do a search on "runaway" and you will see what I mean.

As far as the leak, if this just started with an oil change, I would ditto the suggestion on the filter cover o-ring. The oil pressure sending unit is on the rear of the filter housing but I haven't read any reports here of that being a problem area for leaks. The other possibility in that area is the block-filter housing gasket. Due to vibration, these start to leak but usually just a few drips and not a puddle.

YEs, you can either do a complete drain or pull some though the dipstick tube with one of those type oil removal pumps.
